Feng Shui and astrology in interior design – where space, people and energy come together

At first, these three areas may seem quite separate from one another. Interior design is usually associated with design, technical solutions, functionality, as well as materials, colours and art. Feng Shui focuses on the flow of energy. Astrology can offer a symbolic perspective on an individual’s personality and way of functioning. For me, however, there is enormous potential in bringing these seemingly separate fields together. Because a home is more than just a space A home is where everyday life unfolds. It is where we wake up, rest, work, spend time with the people closest to us, make decisions, recharge and recover after demanding days. That is why, when I design a home, I look beyond how it will appear. I ask: “Will it feel good to live here?” And beyond that: “Will this space support the way its occupants want to live?” What can Feng Shui add? One of the most important principles of Feng Shui for me is that people and their surroundings are in constant interaction. How we enter a home matters. The atmosphere of the bedroom matters. The position of the bed, desk or dining area matters. The colours, shapes, materials and elements around us matter. And the emphasis given to different areas of life within the space matters too. Feng Shui therefore goes beyond decoration. It allows us to look more consciously at the energetic quality of a space and the way energy flows through it. And what can astrology add? Astrology approaches the question from a different perspective. From the individual’s point of view. As a symbolic system, it can help us explore a person’s character, way of functioning, motivations and needs, as well as the kind of environment in which they may feel most like themselves. After all, no two people are exactly alike. And if no two people are the same, why should everyone feel equally comfortable in the same kind of space? What feels calm and harmonious to one person may feel dull or lacking in energy to another. This is why I believe in creating truly personalised homes.   The essence of holistic interior design For me, a holistic approach means that we do not look at isolated details, but at the whole system. The person The space Their current life situation Functionality Aesthetics Energy And the life they want to experience within that space This leads to a very different way of thinking about design. The aim is not to recreate a perfect interior taken straight from a magazine. Instead, it is about creating a home that is beautiful, functional and genuinely supportive of the person living there. Why can this be especially valuable for an interior designer? If you work as a designer, you have probably experienced how two homes with almost identical floor plans can become completely different spaces. Why? Because different people will be living in them. Their lifestyles are different. Their habits are different. Their goals are different. Their energy levels are different. They need different things in order to rest, work, connect or recharge. A holistic approach adds another layer to the design process – one that can make your work with clients deeper and more personal. Instead of asking only: “What colour would you like on the walls?” you can also ask: “What would you like to feel when you walk into your home?” That makes a significant difference. The home as a support system for our lives Think about it. If someone wants more calm in their life, what kind of space could support that? If someone is entering a new stage of life, what kind of home could help them adjust? If someone works from home as an entrepreneur, how can their workspace support focus and creativity? If someone longs for a relationship, what messages might their bedroom and private space be sending? If someone wants to move on from an earlier chapter of life, what are they still physically holding on to from that period in their home? These questions go beyond traditional interior design. This is where a holistic approach to space begins. It is not about expecting a space to “solve everything” I think it is important to say this clearly. A harmonious home will not solve our lives for us. It will not automatically make someone successful, happy or balanced. But our surroundings can influence how we feel, how we use a space, the habits we develop and the extent to which our environment supports or hinders us in everyday life. That is why it is worth designing our surroundings consciously. Not as a form of magic. But as part of a holistic approach. Space → Person → Life This is the way of thinking behind the Health Wise Living® approach. The aim is not simply to “add” Feng Shui or astrology to interior design. Instead, it is about using different systems of knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between people and the spaces they live in. For me, a truly good home works on three levels: beautiful, functional and supportive. And when these three come together, they create that unmistakable feeling: “It feels good to be here.” Eszter BálintHealth Wise Living® – Holistic Interior Design • Feng Shui • Property Strategy 🌿 TMore useful articles, energetic space-planning tips and professional guidance are available in Insights at www.health-wise-living.hu
