1. Use shades of blue
According to color psychology, blue is the color of water, calm, and freshness. Even its visual presence alone creates a cooler ощущation.
In summer, it’s worth bringing more blue tones into your interior:
- dark blue cushions
- light blue textiles
- turquoise or ocean-blue decorations
- blue vases, artwork, or candles
There’s no need to repaint your walls. A few carefully chosen accents are enough to create a lighter, fresher atmosphere.
2. Bring in the energy of the water element through feng shui
In feng shui, the ancient Chinese art of spatial arrangement, the water element represents freshness, flow, and ease.
According to the Bagua system, the north is associated with the Career and Life Path area, which is the only water-element sector. Materials, shapes, and colors connected to water create a cooling effect in the home.
Examples include:
- glass surfaces
- mirrors
- metallic, chrome, or silver finishes
- shimmering decorative objects
- wavy forms
- translucent accessories
- water motifs or ocean-inspired imagery
There’s no need to overdo it. Even a few intentionally placed objects can shift the energy toward a lighter, fresher feeling.
3. Refresh your space with citrus scents
Scents play a key role in shaping the atmosphere of a home. Lemon, lime, grapefruit, and bergamot naturally evoke a sense of cleanliness, freshness, and summer lightness.
You can use:
- natural essential oils
- diffusers
- citrus-scented candles
- fresh lemon or lime slices in a bowl of water
It’s no coincidence that citrus flavors and scents feel so refreshing in summer—the same effect can be created in your home environment.
A cooler home is not only about air conditioning
In holistic interior design, we don’t only shape the physical environment, but also the feeling it creates. With the right colors, materials, forms, and scents, we can design an interior that supports calm and freshness even on the hottest days.
